Adrienne walked through Diagon alley, a heavy bag filled with books under her arm: Advanced Potion Making; Standard Book of Spells, Grade 7; Defence Against The Dark Arts, an Advanced Guide; along with all the other books she would need for her 7th year at Hogwarts.
She walked up the street, hot and tired from walking around Diagon Alley all day, pushing through crowded shops. The bag she was carrying had gotten steadily heavier as the day wore on. Adrienne pulled the back up onto her shoulder for the 100th time that day, to make sure it didnt slip, and tossed her dark hair over her shoulder. She carried on walking, and soon came into veiw of Florean Fortescue's, an ice cream parlor she loved. She had been there every time she came to Diagon Alley, and had still only managed to try a small amount of the flavours it offered.
Adrienne walked in, and ordered an ice cream (double chocolate mint chip) and pulled out her money to pay. Once the transaction was completed, she picked up her ice cream, and decided it was such a nice day she would eat outside. She sat in a seat next to a small table, looking at the people walking past, smiling as she started on her ice cream.

Anna shifted the weight of her bag to her other shoulder. Shopping in Diagon Alley was definitely her least favorite part about going off to Hogwarts every year. The sun beat down on her, seeming extra hot today. She tucked her hair behing her ear and carried on down the cobblestone road. She stopped in front of Florean Fortescue's parlor and ducked inside. She ordered a vanialla chocolate swirl and set her bag down, grateful to be out of the sun for a moment.
She leaned back against the counter and looked through the window as she licked her ice cream. She saw someone from her school. She once again lugged her bag onto her shoulder and headed outside. It was Adrienne, a girl from her dorm. She took a seat at the table.
"Hello Adrienne. How's the shopping going?" she asked with a smile before taking another lick of her ice cream.

Adrienne looked up, smiling as Anna sat down with her. "Not so great," she said, with a grimace "but at least I got it all done now." she pulled up her bag, indicating the weight of it, before dropping it back down. It landed with a thud. "I swear, every year the books just get thicker and thicker..." she sighed, and took another lick of her ice cream. "You know, I thought Id try this flavour. since I havnt gotten it before, but its really good." she smiled.

"I know what you mean. But at least this is our last year...kinda sad actually...I love this ice cream place. Better than any in London," she added, taking another lick. "So did you hear? We're getting some new exchange students this year. Professor Dumbledore wants me to be their little tour guide I guess you could say. But at least we'll be meeting new people. They're supposed to be in our House after all,"

Adrienne looked interested. "Really, exchange students?" she had never heard of any coming to Hogwarts. "Where are they from? One of the other wizard schools?" she only knew of Durmstrang and Beabaxtons, but she was sure there must be more. "So, you have to show them around school and stuff?" she was glad they were getting some new people in their house, it could be interesting.

"So, you have to show them around school and stuff?"
She nodded, contemplating her frozen treat before taking another lick. "Dumbledore wasn't clear on exactly where they were coming from. He only said since they were being placed in his House he wanted someone to make them feel accomodated. I dunno. But it sounded like fun so I agreed," she went on, once again taking another lick.

"Yeh, it will be," Adrienne said, before she too took another lick of her ice cream. "you can show them all the secret passage ways, and tell them what teachers to look out for. Hell, if any of them are jerks you can send them straight to peeves." she smiled wickedly as the possibilities ran through her head "it will be great."

"it will be great."
She laughed and nodded in agreement. "True, but I have a feeling they wont be. They wouldnt be put in Gryffindor if they were, I believe. I cant explain it, but I just have this feeling that they'll all be wonderful. Plus, I'm hoping the guys are nice to look at too!" she giggled, taking another lick.

Adrienne smiled at Anna's comment. "Yeh, that would definitly make me more in favour of the foriegn exchange program." she said. "But some Griffindors are real jerks... well, some are just idiots and dont realise when they are being jerks... but I guess your right, if they were suited to Slytherin or something, thats where they would be." she paused for a moment, to take another lick of her ice cream. "But were they sorted or something? I mean, they could be really suited to Slytherin, but Dumbledor just put them in his old house."

Anna contemplated this as she licked her frozen treat. "Hmm...I dunno actually. Dumbledore just said that they were in Gryffindor. He didn't actually go into detail. He's not really known for that," she added with a giggle

"Yeh, tell me about it." Adrienne said. "Dumbedore always talks in codes or something..." she leant lazily back in her chair, observing the people walking past, thinking about it. "Some of his start of term speechs..." she added, "It takes the whole year to figure out what he meant... and by then its time to hear another one."

Anna laughed. "Too true," she said. She finished off her ice cream. "So what do you think this year has in store for us?" she asked, tucking her hair behind her ear and twirling her wand in her hand.

"Hmm, I dont know." Adrienne said, taking another lick of her ice cream. She always ate slowly, but she too was almost finished. "It should be pretty exciting, I reckon, with exchange students coming, for a start. But then again, our 7th year.... we've got our NEWTs to take." she pulled a face. The idea of studying was not one that had ever appealed to Adrienne, and she knew she wouldnt change her mind in the year to come. Adrienne was always the one with some excuse as to why she hadnt done the homework, the one rushing to do the 5 foot long essay the night before it was due, and the one getting through exams on pure talent alone, having neglected to study properly. Adrienne found that sitting down and just reading text books for long bored her, and she had found she didnt really need to anyway; she wasnt going to force it.

Anna's large blue eyes widened and her jaw dropped slightly. She had completely forgotten about the NEWTs. She had to study her ass off this year. She was a gifted witch, a quick study and someone who loved to learn. But she sucked at tests. Most of the time her nerves got the best of her. "Oh my God I completely forgot! I am SUCH a spaz!" she said, panic edged in her voice.

Adrienne looked up at Annas sudden panic. "Its ok, Im sure you'll be fine." she said. "And besides, we havnt even started the year yet, theres nothing you could have done wrong already, so relax." she smiled, trying to calm her down.
Truth be told, Adrienne wasnt to calm when exam time came around either, but it was almost a year away; they had pleanty of time before they had to panic.
